I would like to know how to compute the (x,y) of a particular point in the map. I have a digital map giving the four corners in terms of longitudes and latitudes, say, (a1,b1), (a1,b2), (a2,b1), (a2,b2).

The distance is calculated as the square root of (x1-x2)^2+(y1-y2)^2.
